Disturbing Video Reveals Point Law Enforcement Suffer Blade Attacks in Ambush
A police sergeant who rushed to the aid of a fellow officer that was assaulted by a knifeman received the Royal Recognition for Bravery.
Sgt Tim Ansell fought with 27-year-old Jacob Brown after he held a weapon to the neck of his colleague Sgt Marc Foster.
Brown launched his attack as the law enforcement personnel and their third officer, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a driver after a road collision in Whalley Range in July 2023.
Brown attacked with blade the two Sgt Ansell and Sgt Foster prior to Police Constable Wolstencroft stopped him with a Taser.
"Officer attacked," the officer was heard to say over his radio.
Officer-mounted and dashcam footage made public by the force showed Brown, wearing in black with a hood covering head, approach to Sergeant Foster from behind with a weapon pointed forward.
He collided with the policeman who stumbled and went down to the ground, after which Sgt Ansell jumped in and tried to wrestle him to the pavement even though being repeatedly struck with the weapon.
PC Wolstencroft drew his Taser and awaited a open target, concluding the struggle to an conclusion.
Sgt Ansell was heard stating: "Can I get assistance on my neck here, I got knifed in the neck."
Sergeant Ansell received two lacerations to his throat and more wounds to his limbs and torso, whereas Sgt Foster received cut injuries.
The department stated Sgt Foster employed his hands to control his colleague's blood loss prior to emergency responders arrived.
The latest honor arrives after the three officers won departmental Courage Honors in October 2023 and the police federation award from the regional Police Federation in spring 2024.
They further earned a Regional Valor Recognition in summer 2024.
"The actions of each policeman in the end protected each other and resulted in no members of the public suffered any harm."
Brown received a sentence to an psychiatric detention in April 2024, as stated by authorities.
