US President Trump Arrives in UK for Second State Visit As Demonstrations Assemble in Windsor

The US president arrived in the UK preceding what marks his repeat state visit, an occasion labeled as historic in modern diplomatic exchanges.

The president and First Lady Melania Trump landed Tuesday night at London Stansted aboard Air Force One. Their itinerary includes events over the coming 48 hours, such as meetings with King Charles, armed forces displays, and a possible aerial demonstration by the RAF aerobatic team alongside British and American F-35 fighter aircraft.

Protests Erupt In Opposition to Trump’s Policies and Rhetoric

The visit has triggered criticism from various quarters in the UK, with the anti-Trump alliance organizing a protest in Windsor on Tuesday and scheduling another rally in the heart of the capital on Wednesday.

A leading official claimed the US president of fanning the flames of divisive, far-right politics across the globe in the past few years.

The critic asserted that the president’s deployment of the military in US cities and focus on of minorities echoed tactics taken from the autocrat’s handbook.

He stressed that while preserving good relations with the US is pragmatic, the UK should not hesitate to criticize a leader who advances harmful policies.

Ceremonial Welcome and Demonstration Details

After landing, Donald and Melania Trump were greeted by US protocol officials and a British lord-in-waiting representing the king. The foreign secretary was among those in attendance to greet the president.

The first couple then entered Marine One, the presidential helicopter, which departed shortly after their arrival. They were expected to proceed to Winfield House in a central London location.

At the same time, approximately 70 protesters gathered near Windsor Castle, carrying placards and shouting phrases such as “Trump out” and “Donald Trump not welcome here”.

A protester commented, “It is necessary to demonstrate that we do not support what is occurring in the world right now.”

Another individual voiced dismay at the UK leadership’s decision to offer such a warm welcome, calling it “disgusting” and questioning whether Trump deserved such exceptional treatment.

Royal Events and Military Displays

The royal couple are set to welcome the presidential pair with a ceremonial welcome at Windsor Castle, featuring artillery honors fired simultaneously in Windsor and at the Tower of London.

UK defense authorities confirmed that this would be the biggest guard of honour provided during a state visit, with approximately 1,300 military personnel and 120 horses participating.

The event will also include a carriage procession toward the castle, accompanied by the household cavalry, and a Beating Retreat ceremony—the first time such an act has been performed for a state visit.

An elaborate state banquet will feature performances by several musical groups, including the Duchess of Edinburgh’s String Orchestra and bagpipe players from the Scots Guards.

Divided Opinions and Future Engagements

While many protested, a few showed approval for the US president’s visit. One supporter remarked that Trump’s presence could assist in facilitating global stability and reinforcing global partnerships.

Another local admitted that while staying away from demonstrations, they believed the public dissent reflected the views of the majority in the UK, stating that the state visit seemed intended to placate Trump rather than reflect public sentiment.

Trump is scheduled to visit the official retreat of Keir Starmer on Thursday, with RAF personnel positioned along the route upon his arrival.
